Howard Lazar
After a long career as a businessman in New York City Howard Lazar discovered the pleasure of the paintbrush and began his exploration of blank canvases and the essential creative spirit that lay within. Looking inward and at the world around him using paint as his guide Lazar began to remove the traces of his long days in the business world. Gently mining what lay beneath his conscious ever-active mind.
Lazar reveals a place of mystery, where the real and unreal phantasms meet; dreamscapes threatening or terrifying in nature, or faint imagined figures step forth in one form or another. The conceptual, emotional, and physical images appear from his hand with such fervor that he has become subject to their realization; a secondary partner in their expression, and in this way he has just begun the journey of discovery.
Lazar holds an undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Arizona. Then went on to a post graduate study in behavioral psychology at Tulane University. In 2001 he returned to his love of psychology and graduated two years later with a masters degree in spiritual psychology from the University of Santa Monica. Lazar's work is in collections across the country and has been shown in numerous galleries including the Watermill Museum, the East Hampton Town Hall, and a solo show at the Walk Tall Gallery. Lazar resides in New York and Los Angeles with his wife Malin and their beloved cat Themisto.
